Ukrainian cyber police have apprehended a 35-year-old man from the Poltava region for allegedly orchestrating a cryptojacking scheme that siphoned $4.4 million in computing resources. The suspect exploited server vulnerabilities to hijack over 5,000 customer accounts of a global hosting provider, deploying mining software undetected since 2018. Authorities seized crypto wallets, hacking tools, and credentials during a raid, revealing ties to underground forums.

The arrest underscores the escalating global threat of cryptojacking, with the accused facing up to 15 years imprisonment for network interference. Meanwhile, ethereum continues gaining traction as institutional infrastructure, contrasting with this case's spotlight on crypto's illicit underbelly.
